    BetterHelp

Mediocre service – more "tech" company than therapy

    • Length of Use: Less than 3 months
    Overall Experience:

I admire what BetterHelp sets out to accomplish, but the existing model isn't effective. The premise is, you tick checkboxes of issues you'd like to focus on and they automatically match you with a provider. Unfortunately, you don't get to actually choose a therapist based on their rating – all you get is a vague description in their bio.

Unlimited sessions are nice, but ultimately, to keep costs low they tend to have high churn from underpaying therapists. Overall it's good if you just need someone to listen. It would be better if users got more choices in qualifying/interviewing/getting the correct match for a therapist instead of automatically being assigned one when you want to change.

    Pros and Cons:

    • Can schedule unlimited sessions
    • Easy to change therapist
    • More cost-effective than therapists who don't take insurance
    • Impersonal matching to providers
    • Underpaying therapists
    • Average to low quality therapists due to low pay
    • Lots of therapists leave platform due to low pay

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
