    BetterHelp

Well needed outlet for people of color

    • Length of Use: 3–6 months
    Overall Experience:

I have never had therapy or any kind of counseling and this is the very first time I’ve had to partake in it. I’m very happy with the connectivity and comfort that I’ve experienced with my counselor Janel Blackman. She is a class act and her level of expertise is undeniable. She is so down to earth and makes me feel like I can finally trust someone and express myself fully without judgment. People of color have a very hard time adjusting to the idea of therapy, nevertheless actually partaking in therapy, but BetterHelp offers us an outlet that works with our schedules and allows us to choose specific categories of therapy that we may seek. We have the choice to test out different therapists to our liking, but I truly was lucky to find my perfect match on the first try. I was honest about my feelings and expectations for therapy and the reason why I was partaking in therapy and my counselor was the very first to reach out to me and made me feel at ease and comfortable on the very first session.

I’m grateful for this experience. I would have never spent $320 on anything monthly, but a car note or car insurance, but this service has been worth every penny. You can schedule as many appointments a month as you can. Also, you can use the texting service if you’re not in a private setting to speak and need to have “radio silence”. Or you can simply speak on the phone or do video chats.

    Pros and Cons:

    • Convenience
    • Professionalism
    • Efficiency
    • Costly for some, but it’s an investment towards mental health

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
