I was uncertain about going into therapy for years, but I finally took the next step and signed up for BetterHelp. The intake process wasn't difficult and I was matched with a therapist right away (the site chose one for me). I quickly realized that the one I was matched with was not a good fit, so I requested a new one. I had the option of about 8 different therapists and was able to read a blurb they wrote about themselves as well as reviews. I narrowed it down and went with the one that spoke to me as a person.
I'm so glad I switched. The process was easy and because I switched, I got 2 weeks free, which was nice and helpful. I love my new therapist - she's positive, encouraging, and I really feel like she cares.
About BetterHelp's interface...You can leave messages for your therapist anytime, which is great. You can also mark them as urgent if you want (I would suggest speaking with your therapist so you can define what "urgent" means). You can record an audio clip or a video clip to send, you could attach a picture, etc. There are many options. There's also a journal you can write in; you can keep entries to yourself or share them with your counselor. I use that quite a bit. I love that I can leave a message for my therapist anytime. There's also a calendar so you can schedule a "live" session (messaging, voice, or video). The only drawback is that once you schedule a session, the calendar disappears, so you can't schedule your next session before you complete your upcoming one.
Also, there are group therapy webinars (groupinars). Honestly, I feel these are mixed. How the presenter handles the incredibly large number of people sets the tone for their presentation. People try to provide therapy for each other in the chat, which can be distracting. The groupinars seem to be scheduled for 1 hour, but some presenters only present for 30-45 minutes. Some presenters are better than others and I've gotten some good tools out of some, but not all.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
