Good talk

By Keonwoo K., Utah, Verified Reviewer

My therapist is a good man.

He encourages me to grow and learn more about the world. He listens to me carefully and tries to come up with the best solution possible. I had very low self-esteem, but I am trying my best to escape from that dark reality. I am coming up with a better future about my life and fixing my problems. I am taking things step by step and learning to be humble always.

Great counselors, great platform

By Summer H., Valparaiso, IN, Verified Reviewer

I have used BetterHelp twice in my life, and I have had great experiences with both counselors. The online sessions plus the unlimited messaging finally make therapy convenient for me, which made me stay with it longer, resulting in better progress. Also, with BetterHelp, I get 4 sessions for the same price as one session when I was doing traditional counseling. I do not have any complaints with the company. Even their customer service was quick and friendly. I will always come back to BetterHelp for all my therapy needs.

The best counseling experience I’ve had.

By Anna H., Shreveport, LA, Verified Reviewer

This is the best counseling experience…

I got connected with the perfect therapist. She and I have progressed so far in just six months. I feel like a different person. Being able to text anytime and record my thoughts and feelings as they are being experienced is the key to a successful experience. Every week I am given an assignment or something to write and think about. That too is something I’m not used to. I’ve been through many counselors. This is it for me. I won’t go anywhere else. Every week when I have my FaceTime session, I can be anywhere. Home, pulled over on the side of the road, on vacation in the pool. Doesn’t matter. Being open and hungry for change is important, and this I believe will inspire through the times when it is difficult to find the hunger.

100% recommend BetterHelp

By Samantha W., New Mexico, Verified Reviewer

Absolutely love BetterHelp, it had helped me so much, and is so convenient and will fit any schedule!

Many counselors work at night and weekends!

My counselor really cares and really listens to me, that's not something I found with any counselor I ever saw in person.

There is a counselor at BetterHelp for everyone, they are so diverse and you can change at any time.

I recommend BetterHelp to everyone I can, it had made such a difference in my life.

Counselor is a danger

By James P., Colorado, Verified Reviewer

I fear for my counselor's involvement in people's lives. I confided in her for months and she pulled a total heel turn. I recommend staying away from her at all costs, particularly if you are prone to hurting yourself. I think her licenses should be revoked and she should not be allowed to be in a profession where sick people confide in her.

She was a great counselor for the first two months. Then she went to EMDR training. She came back and talked down about every other option from her profile (CBT, etc.) and became frustrated when I raised concern about the amount of privacy I was able to provide myself for such an intense practice. I told her over and over that I wanted to do it once I secured a safe space. But she did not hear that, instead accused me of resisting wanting to dig deeper about my issues and suggested that I stop taking therapy. She became accusatory, petulant, toxic, manipulatory, and she straight up ignored what I brought up as genuine concerns, spun it and attempted to passive-aggressively, and aggressive-aggressively belittle me. Her tone was exactly the same as toxic people from my life that I had confided to her about which makes me believe she had ill intent for much longer than I knew...at the very least, her neglect is a danger to me and others. She made my life much harder. I now trust people less because of her. I will need to spend more money now to heal from the damage she has caused. She was my only support system and she knew it and decided to attack me over and over for two days.

On top of it all, she used the session options (phone, video, etc.) to manipulate me too. She refused to do video sessions once I raised concerns about the amount of privacy I could create to do EMDR. She called me instead of video chatting on all but one occasion. When we did video chat, her backdrop was a messy bedroom and an unmade bed, a far cry from what BetterHelp shows you during its advertising.

I fear for the safety of her clients. She pushed me further down a dark path.

For anyone needing some help...

By Sade M., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I encourage anyone lost, or unsure and needing support, to use BetterHelp. It is convenient while still offering groundbreaking, life-changing results. I don’t have to sit down in a cold doctor's office and bare myself to a stranger, all the while missing out on important events or time from work...

Getting started is easy, and painless. I enjoy my counselor so much, but the service really offers you the power to choose! To choose a counselor that fits you, to choose times that are convenient, and at a pace that feels good. I can’t express enough truly how much I have grown myself with BetterHelp, and I encourage anyone curious, to come grow with me, using BetterHelp.

Best counseling experience!

By Vicki S., House Springs, MO, Verified Reviewer

This was my first online counseling experience. It has been amazing! The initial questions help them match you to a counselor. My counselor gets me! The messaging and journaling allow her to understand what I am going through. Her messages back are very helpful for me to go back and read. We have had two live sessions. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful service

By Jim V., Edmore, MI, Verified Reviewer

Having this service for me has been nothing short of amazing. I live in an area where counseling is not readily available. Knowing that I can speak to someone any time it is needed is helpful. Making a trip for traditional sessions would not be possible for me. I highly recommend.

Do it

By Christopher S., Blakeslee, PA, Verified Reviewer

As a 41-year-old guy, going through a divorce, it was difficult for me to seek help. It was hard to find this app but I eventually did. I'm so glad I found this app. It really was a lifesaver. No BS. My counselor saved my life. If you think you may need help, or are thinking about getting help, do it. Your kids will thank you (if you have children). I can't thank my counselor enough.

BetterHelp

By Brittany S., Fostoria, OH, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has gone above and beyond to pair me with the right person to talk to that has helped me a lot in just a short period of time. I highly recommend giving them a try if you are looking for something that is more in the comfort of your own home rather than driving to an office to talk to a therapist or counselor. They are affordable and help in all areas that you need help in.

Satisfied

By Teresa F., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I feel it’s so much more beneficial to be in my own surroundings on my own timeline and be able to write my thoughts down. I then get a response that I can read, read again, think, try the suggestions, etc. I feel it is personal with nothing taken away from not being in the same room with a counselor. Actually I get more out of it because you have a transcript of your thoughts, ideas, and responses. I’ve already recommended this to friends.

Counselor review

By Tatiana S., Saint Paul, MN, Verified Reviewer

I was super hesitant in trying therapy for a number of reasons. But there was a reason why I decided to go forward with this and that was my mom who was super concerned about me. I googled a lot of therapists and I came across BetterHelp.com. I read reviews and was amazed just by that so I made a profile and got a counselor right away. I WAS skeptical at first but my counselor Rachel Tiede is amazing. She listens and doesn’t shut me down or make me feel like me or my feelings don’t matter. And she gives me advice in places I need help in and gives me homework. Different ways of going about things. I was never open to change until I actually took a chance on this website. I wasn’t big on a lot of things I had in me. It just takes the right person to help you get there. And my counselor is doing just that.

Worked for me as a non-urgent self-improvement method

By Emilse V., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

It took a while after I made the decision I needed counseling, as I had adopted a nomadic lifestyle and seeing a regular counselor was out of my reach.

Be warned: this is not an emergency service and online counseling does not fit everyone.

As you sign up you are asked to give details about your current situation, so that the counselor that thinks will is best suitable can take up your case. This process seems to take longer than it actually does (a couple of days). It would be a great improvement to have someone talk to you before being paired with your counselor, as it would help the user cope with the waiting, that for some seems an eternity.

You've got journals within the platform where you can keep track of how you are feeling and share it with your counselor - or potential counselors if you had not been assigned to one yet. This helped me while I was waiting to be assigned to one.

I got paired up with an LCSW specialized in the issues I was dealing with. We started talking initially by text, then by telephone, but video calls were what suited me better so we kept having sessions by video call every one or two weeks.

The platform also offers webinars for free where they talk about different matters, you can pick the ones you are interested in and join. Due to timezones, I was not able to join any of these.

I'd recommend it for people going through a crisis that need support and guidance to overcome their problems.

You thought you were at the end of your rope but there is an answer.

By Alice B., New Mexico, Verified Reviewer

Look, sometimes the guilt and shame of finding yourself in need of help can be overwhelming. You're frozen and you don't know how to get out. That is where I was. I'm not going to tell you it is easy to speak to someone at that point, but BetterHelp can make it easier and, if you are like me, it is a good way to make a commitment and feel you need to follow through. Do this for yourself. If you are at the end...do this first. There is someone on the other side and that person has what you need.

My short-term therapy appears productive

By Bruce B., Maryland, Verified Reviewer

Online psych counseling is convenient and identical to an office visit with a counselor. I have met my counselor three times and found her attentive and interactive. She seems well versed in listening to people with my kinds of problems. I am not sure how long our relationship will be beneficial to me.

BH helped me find support, but make sure to do your homework

By Victoria D., Maryland, Verified Reviewer

I'd heard about BH from YouTube, as did a lot of people. I was skeptical at first as I'd never heard of online counseling. However, I was going through a very dark time and losing my health insurance made me give it a try. My counselor was the second therapist I was matched with after the other one didn't fit. We clicked right away and I've had her for a year now. She's the best therapist I've had in years. I feel like I'm talking to a close friend and not just a therapist. She remembers what we talked about and often asks questions about previous messages/video chats to follow up on. She makes sure she understands what I'm talking about and is very empathetic. She is also incredibly flexible and generous when scheduling sessions.

A setback is that BH doesn't have an official validation process for their therapists. Because of this, it's very important for customers to take the initiative and research their therapists right off the bat. I looked up my therapist's information on LinkedIn and verified she was certified and experienced before I scheduled my first meeting. Everyone should do this. BH gives the option to switch therapists at any time, so you can 'shop around' until you find the right match and ensure they're legit.

Online counseling is still very new and still has some bugs to work out. However, for people like me who can't drive/don't have insurance, it's worth giving it a chance as it's very affordable and easy to use. No need for doctor's referrals or fighting with insurance companies.

Finally found therapy that works for me

By Kayla P., Memphis, TN, Verified Reviewer

I was hesitant to start therapy again but I decided to go for BetterHelp. As someone who regularly moves, it was hard building relationships with therapists only to have to leave. The video and phone and message session therapy options have made it so I have consistency in my life. It makes me feel more balanced. I’m happier. Life doesn’t seem like this heavy burden anymore because my therapists give me coping tools and goals. BetterHelp is a GREAT service. Thank you.

Counseling for a busy mom!

By Stacey G., Cleveland, OH, Verified Reviewer

I needed to find counseling to deal with the loss of my parents, but have two children and sadly, no babysitting options. I decided to give this a try and couldn’t be happier I did. I can talk to my counselor on the weekend from my home, when my husband can watch the kids and finally start to heal myself. It’s been a long road. My counselor sends me messages and is able to share my journal entries to understand how my day has gone. Even on holidays. There wasn’t a waiting list or a high price tag. This has saved me. If you’re on the fence, please give it a try. I was skeptical and now tell everyone I know what an amazing service it is. We are so caught up in the stigma of people and mental health issues. I connected immediately with my counselor and can’t imagine not having her in my life now.

I love this platform! So handy!

By Racquel M., Denton, TX, Verified Reviewer

I honestly love this platform. It's wonderful to have access to my therapist at the push of a button. BetterHelp makes scheduling and therapy easy and fun, and if the other counselors are anything like mine is, they're wonderful! I'm definitely working through some issues and learning about myself despite not having been using the platform very long. In addition to therapy, it has a journaling feature plus some other cool stuff like groupinars I'm looking forward to trying! 10/10 recommend!

BetterHelp has been great!

By Kristin J., Akron, OH, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has been a nice way for me to get my counseling sessions done in the conscience of my own home, or wherever I might be. With having two small children, a full time job, and a busy lifestyle, I don’t have the time to set aside for a commute to a counselor on top of the time I would be there and then the drive home. It’s nice to be able to set aside the 30 minutes to an hour that I can talk to my counselor and sort through my thoughts and troubles with him that day while I’m at home. The price is also reasonable. Any other counselor would cost anywhere from $100 - $150 an hour. BetterHelp is $188 per month with unlimited time to talk to someone either through text, phone or video chat. I love to video chat. Makes it feel more real and personal. I am glad I found BetterHelp!

BetterHelp helped me when I really needed it

By Chase K., Eau Claire, WI, Verified Reviewer

I was hesitant to try an online counseling app, but I can honestly say that BetterHelp has helped me more than any other in person counselor I’ve had. I can’t speak for all the counselors on the app, but the one I got has been amazing. She’s attentive, quick to respond, down to earth, always has good advice, and gives me the steps needed to improve my life. It’s really been extremely helpful for my mental health, and I’d recommend it to anyone seeking help.

A great counseling experience

By Paul G., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I really like this format for therapy. I get to communicate with my therapist right then, rather than having to wait until my regular appointment. The "texting" format also allows me to journal at the same time as I'm seeking guidance. So not only do I get good support, I have a written record of what has gone before so I can review my progress.

I think this format is vastly superior, for me, to visiting a counselor on a weekly basis. I really like not traveling and being able to start a conversation right now rather than writing something down and remembering to bring it to my counseling session.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
