Accountability and psychology = success!

By Sharyn Hillary H., Sugar Land, TX, Verified Reviewer

How do you lose and keep it off effectively? I started last month and I'm down 5 lbs already! This is how YOU can do it too...You focus, become accountable, use psychology so you can understand why you make the choices you make, and you do it all with a group, a tribe that’s on YOUR side! That is Noom! And that’s a recipe for success.

Noom program works

By Sherlyn H., Estero, FL, Verified Reviewer

I have been on Noom for four weeks. I have been successful losing over 2 pounds per week staying within my calorie range and paying attention to the zones the food fall into. I have been encouraged to begin walking again and increasing my steps each day. The daily information about the science of how our bodies work in relation to nutrition and weight loss have been extremely helpful. The personal coach and the group coaches have been responsive and helpful. I have been on many weight loss programs in the past and have gained my weight back so I hope that Noom can help me maintain a healthy weight in the future.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

All your tools in one box!

By Emily F., Richmond, VA, Verified Reviewer

There are some very small details that need to be fixed, but overall I am very happy with the program.

I’m not "happy" because it made me lose weight - I did that. I’m not "happy" because I just tried it for 2 days and I like the way the app flows or whatever.

I am happy because Noom combines the best of all the weight-loss advice, the best of all the psychology, the best of all the physiology, all into one program...and I haven’t found conflicting or misleading or even particularly poorly-worded information (except one time you called my elephant "evil" and my elephant isn’t evil, it’s just short-term driven).

The calorie logger? Eh, it could be smoother, but I’m not used to any other calorie logger, so I’m fine with this.

I ADORE that Noom adds back calories as you exercise and burn through the day! I. LOVE. THAT.

Things I want to see updates for:

1) The exercise I do is mostly walking...so I get calories added back to my budget for BOTH "calories burned" in my Apple Watch AND "steps taken." Uhhhhh except those are the same steps, and I shouldn’t get a double rebate like that. But hey, it’s still super rewarding to have done a lot of walking back and forth at work and look at Noom and see you’ve bumped up to a 1900 calorie day (given that I start the day with a 1200 calorie budget)!

2) I want the barcode reader available for my recipes. I want to be able to log multiple-serving food by barcode! If I make a rice dish with a packet of this brand rice (which is in the database) and a jar of that sauce (in the database) and a can of this other thing (in the database) and it made four servings...that’s a pretty standard thing in my house...please help me do this even better-ER!

3) The group discussion part needs work, but...well. It just needs work.

4) Some of the calorie counts are off or don’t make sense, but there’s nowhere to explain WHAT is wrong.

Having said all that, my biggest issue is the double-rebate for walking exercise - can I maybe have an option to switch off the "calories burned" calculation for the step counter portion of the app? That would be great. Or maybe you have a better idea? And the barcode scanner for recipes, with the ability to say "whole package" or "whole can" or whatever.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Overall great program

By Heather B., Port McNeill, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I really have enjoyed my Noom experience!

I appreciate that it is backed by psychology, not just nutrition and exercise components!

There is an accountability component with a goal setting coach and with a group coach. The support of the group is also an advantage!

The food log is easy to use also tracking exercise! There are no food restrictions, no pressure to go at someone else's pace!

My only complaint is the app isn't transferable from my tablet to my cellphone.

Loving it and losing it!

By Leslie S., California, Verified Reviewer

I have been on Noom for almost 5 weeks and have lost 14 lbs so far. It's not just about the weight loss, it's more about the acquired knowledge about food choices, new eating habits, and ALL the psychology that goes with it. The support from the group and personalized coaching are amazing. Honest food logging and the daily calorie budget is just another tool that helps keep me on track. Having done the Weight Watchers program before Noom is far and above the road to my weight loss goal and maintaining it. I am 56 so Noom is not just for millennials!

It works - sort of.

By Angela B., North Carolina, Verified Reviewer

If you need tips and tricks to trick your brain into believing you can lose weight, it's great. Otherwise, go with MyFitnessPal for free. The food logging system is better by leaps and bounds. Plus the upgraded version is only 30 or 40 bucks for a year compared to over $100 for Noom for just 6 months. If telling all of your struggles in a group chat motivates you though, go with Noom.

Cheesy and cringe-worthy - but it works!

By J D., Minneapolis, MN, Verified Reviewer

Noom worked for me! I lost 7.5 lbs in January, in a safe and healthy way, without feelings of excruciating deprivation. I reached my goal weight and now have the knowledge to make smarter choices about portions/what to eat so I can maintain my happy weight. I thought I was eating healthy before, but I learned a lot. I’ve miraculously lost my taste for junk and feel like I’ve made positive/permanent changes. I feel great. The only downside - the super cheesy, annoying, jokey (but unfunny) style of the lessons. I’m 43 and possibly out of the target audience for this app? No matter! It works. (My glee about the app was annoying to my partner at first, but he has come around and is now losing weight too.)

I love Noom!

By Wendy ., Winston-Salem, NC, Verified Reviewer

Every year I restart trying to lose weight in January, and it never lasts very long. Noom’s program is totally different. I look forward every day to reading the articles and learning more research about weight loss. They are funny and engaging. This program is realistic, and its goals are attainable for anyone willing to commit to it. It is affordable too! I love having a coach to touch base with each week who helps me set realistic, measurable, and attainable goals. I have lost 10 pounds already, and I am more hopeful than ever that I will lose 10 more and keep it all off! I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to commit to a long lasting healthy lifestyle change.
