The articles are interesting and informative; the daily check-in is useful. Like any other weight-loss app, you track your weight, exercise, and food intake every day. It's easy to track premade foods by scanning barcodes, a little harder to put in other meals. They added a recipe feature for iPhone, but it's really only useful if you use the same exact recipe for more than one meal; they are hard to adjust. You also can't check the calories in something before you eat it, you have to input it as a meal and then delete it, which isn't too difficult, but definitely could be improved.
But on to what I can't get from other apps or just reading on the internet, the reasons I tried Noom: The group is my favorite part, I get a lot out of that. It's a little bit like virtual weight watchers, you talk to other people about your goals and struggles, which is nice, although some people definitely engage more than others, which can be nice or annoying if they're not tech-savvy (one person in mine starts a new thread multiple times a day, instead of commenting on other posts).
My main problem, why I give this a 3 instead of a 4, is with the "Goal Specialist," who is either an AI or just a guy selecting premade messages from a list, they don't help me at all or actually respond to what I'm saying. One of the big sales pitches for this app is that individual support, which is what I'm paying so much money for, and I contacted customer support about this but they have not responded.
Bottom line: If you're really into the group aspect, go for it; otherwise, there are other, free-er apps that help you track weight-loss progress.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
