It works!

By Vicki H., North Carolina, Verified Reviewer

Noom is the only program that has worked in my busy schedule! It has allowed me to set goals, work through plateaus, and look at weight loss as a lifestyle! I love how easy it was to start. Noom makes weight loss easy for everyone! I am 50 years old. Through Noom I have lost 15 lb in the 5 weeks I have been with them! But the weight loss is not all I have received...I am feeling healthier, have more energy and am starting to love my body again! Thank you Noom!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Noom

By Caroline H., Dallas, TX, Verified Reviewer

I will be honest, although the app is helpful, the content is drivel and was written for an average age of about 6. I am appalled that educated adults are expected to read this. It lands somewhere in between a cheerleading session and fairly decent information. All could have been presented factually without the rah-rah. Additionally, the system is not necessarily able to identify when you do or do not do something and will often congratulate you for something you have not done. Do not buy the meal plan or the DNA testing. Not informative.

New to Noom

By Ronda S., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I am in my fourth week with Noom. I have found the plan helpful, lots of great information every day. Really has opened my eyes to what I've done wrong in my diet for many years. I always thought diet foods were a good thing, not thinking about preservatives, sodium, etc. I have learned to shop, spending more time in produce and fresh foods. So far, in four weeks, I have lost over 15 lbs. I appreciate the slow, steady weight loss. I am gaining confidence that this is not a temporary fix. I am changing my habits, thoughts, actions. THANK YOU NOOM.

Excellent program

By Barbara H., Wilmington, NC, Verified Reviewer

I have tried them all and Noom is the only one that has worked. I have been on the program a number of weeks and have found the lifestyle suggestions, calorie keeping, exercise ideas and psychology and physical understandings to my liking. It makes sense. My body has responded. I feel that weight loss is possible. Through Noom I have all the tools at my fingertips. Thank you Noom.

Smart program!

By Angie W., Hammond, LA, Verified Reviewer

Noom utilizes a lot of psychology to help me specifically identify goals and the steps and changes I CHOOSE to make toward lasting lifestyle changes. Additionally, there are multiple forms of accountability built in, and fun easy ways to learn information that can be helpful to understand the weight loss journey.

I view myself as fairly health literate so learning more "ins and outs" is exciting and helpful.

So informative!

By Kelsey R., Tampa, FL, Verified Reviewer

Because of Noom I feel like I finally understand nutrition and all the aspects that factor into it! Other diets/programs tell you what or how much to eat, but nothing explains WHY. Noom is a great lifestyle coach and you’ll learn a ton of relevant and useful knowledge throughout your journey.

Working for me!

By Suzette H., East Haven, CT, Verified Reviewer

I had seen Noom online. It was only when my mother-of-the-bride dress did not fit that I finally signed up. It has been very effective for me. I eat what I want, when I want. Never feel deprived. Tracking my weight daily works very well for me. I lost 8 pounds in the first month. Beyond the weight loss, it has encouraged me to get more active; joined a gym and exercise regularly. With so many diets out there (often contradictory), I am happy I found a plan that I can live with.

Good app but has room for improvement

By Mary B., California, Verified Reviewer

There are many good things about this app. And I am happy that I purchased the 4-month package.

I like the app for its tips and tricks.

However, there are definitely some things that bother that I hope they will fix and change.

Firstly, I am bothered by the inappropriate innuendo, cuss words like da*n, profanity symbols in lieu of cuss words. So please, no cussing, explicit or implicit.

Secondly, I am annoyed by the constant attempts to be funny. It is like the author of the daily articles is seeking approval. I want the author, who is supposed to be leading and guiding me into a greater degree of health, to be confident in speaking the truth and not needing me to be laughing at his or her jokes all the time.

Humor is good for sure but there is a lot of sarcasm and I just don't find most of the "jokes" that funny. Sorry! Enough already about NoomNerds. The science you study is legitimate; so don't keep trying to make yourselves out to be unappreciated by society at large. You are serving your community well. No need to defend yourselves over and over.

It just takes more time to read the articles with all the irrelevant side comments, and we all are short on time. I get the desire to "personalize" the discussion, but it is just over the top in this app for me. Maybe it works for others. I personally just want the help. I can get personal and laugh with my Noom group (if they reduce the size of it).

Thirdly, there is not enough interface with the goal specialist, and what does happen is very inconsistent and haphazard. So, she is an unreliable source of encouragement. She tries to be helpful, but the communication is just too sporadic and infrequent. Additionally, I can't get any email or text notice when she does post a comment. So I normally discover it several days after the fact.

Fourthly, there are way too many people in my Group for it to actually matter (maybe 20-30 people??). It is not a source of accountability or encouragement. No one responds to my posts, because there are so many people. I have no idea if anyone even reads them most days. A few times someone has "liked" my post. But I never hear again. Nor do I respond to others' posts because there are too many to respond to. Six people is a good size so we can actually hold each other accountable by having a meaningful conversation.

I know nothing of my group leader except that I am guessing she is posting boilerplate comments each day. She has responded to one of my posts once. She seems nice. But the communication is too inconsistent with her also.

Finally, I'd like a graph of my daily steps and time or distance on the treadmill, to see progress.

I hope these comments help! I will continue to use daily because I have paid for it and it is all I have for now. It has some good tricks for sure.

Pleasantly surprised!

By Jan M., Santa Clara, CA, Verified Reviewer

What I most like is the ability to log my foods - with many brand name items already in your database.

I also like the daily "lessons," but because they build on the previous lessons and I have a terrible memory, it’s hard for me to keep up.

Another, very positive aspect of the program is that they allow for human "pitfalls," instead of admonishing me for not being perfect. They allow me to choose my own foods - including snacks that I like, - and incorporate that into the plan. They understand that weight loss is not a consistently, downward process.

I’m not fond of the "community"/group program, though. There seems to be no context to go along with posts, so most of the time, I have no idea what other people are commenting on/responding to.

Not perfect, but close!

By Abbi S., Dalton, GA, Verified Reviewer

Noom has been a HUGE positive influence in my weight loss journey. Being trained in exercise and health science, I was skeptical that this app would offer more than what I already knew about lifestyle change and weight-loss, but I was surprised to see articles focusing on hormone responses to weight loss and the brain function associated with weight loss. Further, I LOVE the meal logging feature with the calorie budget and color system. Again, I am no stranger to food logging and being able to identify nutritious options, but something about this particular system made it a no-brainer.

While overall I am pleased with my Noom experience, there are two things that, in my opinion, that could use some improvement. First, I am not thrilled with the response time of my goal specialist. I understand that our correspondence is designed to be less than that of the group setting, but I usually wait 48 hours or more after I have responded to a question that he has posted. Early on, I suggested that perhaps we were trying to communicate during hours/days that he was not available, and was open to creating a new time for us to connect. He informed me that our conversations weren't like the group, and they would only be once or twice a week (this was before the group was introduced). That's fine, but I still do not like the lag time between starting a conversation and ending it. Second, I have come across a few foods that are entered incorrectly when logging meals. A recent example was Special K Protein Cereal; there were plenty of entries, but none of them corresponded with the correct nutrition facts on my product. For the most part, this is not a huge bother, but I do keep an eye on it and make it a point to compare the nutrition facts in the database to my own. As the database grows, I am sure you will run into duplicate and incorrect entries. This will need to be a focus if it is not already.

While the app is not perfect, I consider it to be pretty close. I have learned things that I will carry with me far past finally hitting my goal weight. I would highly recommend this to a friend...as a matter of fact, I have!

Leaving something to be desired

By Rebecca M., New York, Verified Reviewer

Noom has been fairly average compared to other programs I've tried. Although I enjoy learning the science and psychology behind dieting and some of the struggles that go with is, I haven't seen enough results to feel like it's worth all the literature. Also, it took a long time to get synced up with my coaches, and even when I did, they aren't very helpful. My goal coach typically asks questions of me rather than giving me answers to my own questions. When she does attempt to answer a question of mine, she most often just regurgitates articles or charts from what I've read that week, rather than practical tips or encouragement. This isn't helpful for someone who is struggling emotionally with weight loss. If I could just get the information from the daily reading, why would I need her as a coach? Most importantly, though, I feel that this app has helped me balance my healthy food intake, but not really changed my weight at all in almost 6 weeks. It's even more frustrating since the online introduction predicted I would be at my target weight by now, rather than still struggling to lose more than 3lbs.
