No services provided, can't cancel

By Karen Z., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I signed up with Noom on 2/23/19. I bought the free 14-day trial and the customized exercise and weight loss plans. I received the documents which were generic, and available everywhere for free. I am out $59 because I stupidly used a debit card. It is now February 25th. I cannot log into Noom, I can't use the documents sent to me, and their two 800 numbers tell you that you must log in. You cannot talk to anyone.

I have sent several questions to Noom and no results. I called my card company and filed a dispute. I can't believe I was so stupid as to expect this to work. This is a FRAUDULENT company.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Worked for me

By Christie T., Kentucky, Verified Reviewer

I am an educated person that could have looked up all of what Noom offers if I didn't know it already. I could track my own foods and my weight. However, I love the app because it appeals to my phone addicted lifestyle, is a constant reminder (because I am horrible with accountability and followthrough), and serves as a resource all in one place. Of course, we all could do this on our own but some of us just need that "cheerleader." I have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks without depriving myself of foods I love, so yes, it has worked for me. If it was such common sense, everyone would be at their goal weight.

Not for those with a history of eating disorders

By Jennifer L., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I was really hoping with the emphasis on psychology that this program would be different, but the huge number of us with eating disorders are not going to be served here. There is no mention nor help with obsessive thoughts about food or the accompanying compulsions that plague so many. Very disappointed. I found myself obsessing over calories and quantities since there are constant texts, emails, and notices about food and dieting all day, every day. I was more obsessed with food a few weeks in than when I started, and weight loss wasn't even in the cards with that going on. When all you can think about is food, because you are constantly bombarded with notices about food, it makes it very hard to lose weight.

The pedometer and calorie counting portions are nice but not worth the very hefty price tag since you can get these in free apps.

Save your money.

Flimsy AI experience

By Megan F., Hartland, WI, Verified Reviewer

I downloaded the app and started the free trial period. After taking me through a pseudo-interview with an avatar, it spit back at me exactly what I had typed in. The wording of all interactions with the app confirms that there are no real people involved and the AI is extremely simplistic. I was not impressed.

Also, there seems to be no way to import meal tracking from another app which I use.

I canceled my account.

Needs a little fine tuning

By Jennifer H., Pennsylvania, Verified Reviewer

I am very pleased with the upbeat approach that is being taken to losing weight and the lifestyle changes that must happen. It is great to be connected to others who share that goal and motivators who are skilled in helping us.

I believe that the app needs some work. The things that I rely on the most is the recording of food. I should not have to adjust the site and daily in EVERY time I record something like sugar or cinnamon for example. These things I use every day. Other weight control apps can remember your most commonly used measurements, and the Noom app should too.

I would recommend this to a friend, but with these reservations.

Very good program

By Catherine P., Mico, TX, Verified Reviewer

The Noom program is not as much a weight-loss program as it is a healthy lifestyle program. Not only does it help you lose weight, but it reinforces good decision-making habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle.

SCAM all the way

By Dawn L., Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I gave them the info requested to see how the app worked, believing there "free trial" info.

I then canceled it within three days. I unsubscribed.

Low and behold I had a charge on my credit card a month later. I have asked to have it reversed and remove my information as I unsubscribed within the time frame allotted.

I have as yet heard nothing back.

I'll keep you posted.

Noom works, and works well!

By George M., Oneida, NY, Verified Reviewer

I admit it, I was skeptical. I am not a dieter, but managed to lose 60 lbs a few years back...then put most of it back on. I did the Noom trial, and said, "Well, this might work, but we'll see if it will work with my crazy schedule." Well, it does, and it works well. The thinking is almost made automatic by reading and following each day. Yes, I may be logging my breakfast at 1:00 pm, and my dinner at bedtime, but it feels really good at the end of the day to know the Noom Nerds will be there first thing in the morning, ready to give you that nudge to get you thinking and staying on track!

No way to problem solve or get what I signed up for

By Martha D., Pittsburgh, PA, Verified Reviewer

I used Noom in 2016/2017 and had a wonderful experience. Of particular value were the individual and group coaches and the quality of their attention, responsiveness, and advice. The app worked as it was described without any glitches.

I decided to use Noom again in 2018/19 as I again needed some support for wanted diet and lifestyle changes, however, I am having a completely different experience. The personal coach is brief and doesn't seem interested in tailoring advice to my particular needs, is asking questions not too distinct from that which I imagine a robot could generate. Also, while I was supposed to be connected to a group after two weeks (I believe), it took over a month, so the group had already started receiving coaching and interacting for a while before I joined and it is really hard now to get into the swing of things.

I have paid money into it but am experiencing none of the same benefits this time around. The most unfortunate part of all of this is that I am not able to speak to a neutral customer service representative in order to request solutions or a change in my personal coach. I would have to request it from the personal coach herself, which feels very uncomfortable.

After weeks of feeling a bit off about this Noom experience, I decided to hit the cancel button (whereas if there were a customer service number offered I would have stuck with the company by requesting a Restart with a new coach and group). What happened when I hit the "cancel" option is that I was offered a discounted price to continue. So instead of being able to make the adjustments I need, I am now paying a portion of the cost. None of these issues, however, have been resolved and I am starting to wonder now if even the discounted cost is worth it.

Last week the personal coach offered to start my program over with a new group all starting at the same time, and I thought to myself, "well maybe this literal re-group will help me to regroup and get motivated again." It has been a week, however, and for whatever reason she has been unable actually to execute this change. The bottom line is that I imagine there are multiple issues that could be resolved if I had access to a customer service phone or chat line. This might be a great service for you, but it will depend on your luck in getting good coaches and everything working as it should. If not, there is no quick way to resolve things!

BAD! Only in it for the money.

By Tuesday S., Indiana, Verified Reviewer

This "company" is only in it for the money! Some people might find what they offer beneficial but for what they charge for what they offer... you can find better. Trust me! PLEASE if you haven't downloaded the app yet, do your research!

For those of you on here that have already figured this out and have lost money due to their "refund policy," I suggest you, as I have already done, email them through their "support system" letting them know that you feel their business practices are UNETHICAL, especially their billing system, for whatever reasons you have. I had plenty, including attempts to cancel that were ignored, their refund policy and FAQ sections being difficult to navigate or get any useful information out of, and the fact that they do not email or inform you in ANY way that your trial period is up and you are about to begin being billed. I also never actually used the app or inputted any information into it besides the initial sign up, because I realized pretty much immediately that what they offered wasn't actually what they were advertising. Plus $150 for a computer to generate advice and tasks for me through an app for 6 months? I can get that somewhere else for cheaper...or free!

I informed them that their business was obviously a scam, and that their billing policy and practice was unethical and considered CUSTOMER FRAUD as defined by the Customer Protection Act of 1986.

I also copied four different other customer reviews stating the very same things I was from Facebook, this website, and another website into the email.

I received an email within 30 minutes informing me that she "spoke with her manager and I would be receiving a full refund within 2-5 business days."

I suggest anyone else out there that gets scammed by this company to do the same as I have. If you want your money back.

Personal coach lacking connection

By Hassen H., Elkhart, IN, Verified Reviewer

I love everything about Noom. I really do. It has changed my life in 7 weeks. I would do it even if I didn't need to lose weight. The positive feedback within the group and from all of the psych tricks is amazing. About the only complaint I have is I really don't have a connection with my personal coach. Sometimes I question if the same coach is texting me from one day to the next. If I could change coaches, I would.

My group coach is AMAZING! She posts so many great things online. I wish she were my personal coach. I think she is the reason our group is so interactive.
