I have always had a history of chronic constipation. I know as a child, teenager, and young adult, my diet was not good, but fast forward...
I'm in my late 50s and had been having some GI issues. Due to painful radiculopathy episodes from a stenotic neck, I had taken many a dosage of decadron (oral steroids) and received several corticosteroid injections.
I didn't realize how this weakened my colon, and with three episodes of severe diverticulitis within 1.5 years time, I went on high doses of Cipro and Flagyl.
After my diverticulitis was healed by the massive antibiotics, I began to have severe cramping throughout the day, sometimes never having a BM and then sometimes losing control of a BM. Needless to say, it was embarrassing.
I started on Prebiothrive four days before an appointment with a well-known Gastroenterologist (who was awesome by the way), to discuss my problems. I was already better due to the Prebiothrive and I told the doc, but he suggested a medicine.
He started me on Linzess, a medication for IBS.
I went ahead and started on this as well, as I kept up with the Prebiothrive. The GI doc told me based on my history, I'd best be staying by the bathroom for at least the first few days.
I learned really quickly what he was talking about and I couldn't leave my house. But then, after five days, it quit working. I'm thinking, "do I have to have medically induced diarrhea in order to be normal?"
I read reviews on Linzess, and others stated that it worked for awhile and then just quit working. What was the result? Increased dosage of course. I didn't want to have to succumb to a medicine that would create GI motion by being a constant laxative. So I quit the Linzess, but remained on only the Prebiothrive.
I've been great! I've had a normal BM every day with no extreme cramping throughout the day.
I've also re-adjusted my diet and excluded certain foods I was eating a lot of, but the prebiotic alone has been a miracle for me.
Now, I'm trying to get my husband to use it. I'll let you know how THAT goes!
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
