BetterHelp counseling services

By Renee I., Stockton, CA, Verified Reviewer

I enjoy BetterHelp because of the efficiency and easy use of their app. It allows for multiple ways to stay connected with my counselor which brings peace of mind. I was able to change my counselor as quickly as I felt it was needed and BetterHelp was on it just as quick as I was. I have had a good start with my new counselor and she is perfect for me. She understands my holistic approach to life and incorporates that understanding well into our sessions. She provides great resources, keeps it easy so I understand where she’s coming from when addressing my real issues. I feel safe with her and am thankful I have a neutral party to help me take a closer look at who I am so I can be a better me.

I was in a really dark place and they are helping me see the light at the end of the tunnel. The struggle for me is real. Thank God I have someone who cares and understands what I am going through.

Counseling app

By Michelle R., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

My experience with BetterHelp has been great thus far. I suffer from intense anxiety/panic attacks due to emotional trauma and codependent tendencies. Since I’ve started the app my counselor has helped me find my emotional triggers, how to work through them, and has helped me reshape my thought process to overcome these issues. I, since then, have seen a major decrease in my anxiety as well as little to no panic attacks. Having a new outlook on how to overcome and to work through upsetting triggers is something I’m able to work on daily with positivity. I recommend BetterHelp.

Godsent

By R J., Brooklyn, NY, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has helped me find the perfect therapist for me. I was very specific as to what kind of therapist I wanted and the match that was made was Godsent. It is my first time in therapy. I was always the one escaping from my true feelings whether with food, drugs, or sex, never able to face them head on. With my therapist I have been able to do this. I feel myself changing in the most beautiful ways. BetterHelp has also made me someone currently unemployed be able to afford what I always felt would be too expensive for me to have as a single mom.

Experience with service from an everyday guy

By Isaac F., Newnan, GA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is a great and easy tool for anyone to use. I was a bit hesitant to use it at first but was surprised by the level of knowledge and professionalism that the counselors bring. They are well-qualified counselors and the beauty of it is you can switch them to find the right match if you don't feel comfortable with one. Learning material is provided along with a variety of tools and access at any time to the counselor. If you are on the fence about this service, do it!

Counseling for multiple issues

By Leslie C., Nicholasville, KY, Verified Reviewer

I was very skeptical about doing these services. I only wish I had started after my spouse died. Not a year later. COVID and working from home with isolation only deepened my depression, sleep issues, thought process issues. Samuel has been wonderful, within the first 24 hours he grasped all of my concerns. Every day I feel more like myself. I would highly recommend these services.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Samuel’s presence, I feel like he is with me and seems to message me just when I need it

Therapy but simpler

I've been using BetterHelp for a few weeks, and I'm really glad I decided to try it. BetterHelp lowers the barrier to entry for someone like me who is put off by the traditional therapist search process. Switching was easy and painless, so I was able to find the right match in no time. And BetterHelp doesn't make you pay until you've found a therapist you're happy with.

Very pleased with this service! Highly recommend.

By Carlie W., Walhalla, SC, Verified Reviewer

I love BetterHelp because it caters to my personal needs and matched me with a counselor who I really feel I can relate to and speak freely with. It is much more affordable than traditional therapy, and has the additional benefit of 24/7 messaging with your counselor if you ever need to talk outside of your scheduled sessions. I had been avoiding going back to therapy because of the cost and inconvenience of office visits, but BetterHelp makes it so easy and affordable to talk to a professional counselor from the comfort of your home.

I should have done this a long time ago, lol

By Audrey E., Atlanta, GA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has made me feel heard, and that’s all I could ever ask for. The app is VERY user-friendly, and makes it so easy for you to keep in contact with your counselor in so many ways, on your given time. For this to be my first therapy experience it was so easy to find a counselor that fit my spiritual needs and has helped me cope with my anxiety on my journey to adulthood. I wish I’ve done this a long time ago. BetterHelp is what I needed to heal and get back on track with the life I can be capable of.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

In the comfort of my own home

By Meagan E., San Antonio, TX, Verified Reviewer

I joined BetterHelp about six months ago. I was anticipating there being some difficulties when it came to using this platform because I have only done in-person therapy. However, that is not what I got at all. Once matched with a therapist communication started that day and I had my first video session that week. I like that the scheduling is very flexible and easy to reschedule if needed. The ability to communicate with my therapist between sessions has been a godsend! I would recommend BetterHelp in a heartbeat.

Worth it

By Dornicia D., Hahira, GA, Verified Reviewer

When I first joined BetterHelp I was a little nervous because I’ve been to counseling before, but in person. I wasn’t sure how the online would make me feel but with the options to chat through messenger, call over the phone, or video call, I feel like there was so much support and opportunities for me to connect, especially during this time during COVID-19. My counselor has been extremely helpful and I get excited when I’m able to resolve a concern without having to talk to her but based off of the sessions we’ve had where her words of suggestions allow me to process throughout the week. I’ve joined 3 webinars so far and they’ve all been extremely helpful. It’s almost like a pick-me-up for during the week when I can’t immediately talk to my counselor. They are very informational and genuinely provide realistic outcomes of situations that happen to most of us.

The therapists/counselors also do a Q&A at the end which makes it great for individuals to feel like we can connect with each other and that we’re not in this alone. Sometimes some people’s questions answer a multitude of concerns when it gets answered!

The platform itself is very easy to navigate and I rarely had any technical issues. Due to my area sometimes connectivity was a problem but that was not a BetterHelp platform fault. The only true issue I have with the platform is that I wish there was a way for me to see further out of my counselor's schedule even after booking a time and when I initially signed up, there was an offer for a discounted rate for students but I had to submit an email versus picking the option from the beginning. It did get resolved immediately and customer service was very nice and speedy with their responses. Overall, a great mental health platform and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get better!

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Opportunities of different ways to talk to therapist with chat, phone, and video call

Platform is easy to navigate

Plenty of resources to help almost every day

Great matching for therapist

Payment options menu doesn’t allow discount to be selected first

After booking scheduled time with therapist, cannot see any other availability unless cancel current scheduled time

No PDF or saved library for the webinars to review at a later time

I love this way to get therapy. Private, easy.

By Bonnie W., Springfield, OR, Verified Reviewer

I was nervous at first about online therapy. I thought it would be awkward, but you can talk to a therapist by email, video, or phone whatever suits you. I was matched right away with a therapist that fits my personality. I expected to go through several before I found one that I felt comfortable with, but that was not the case. I highly recommend them! For this introvert, this is perfect. I can email when I need to talk or schedule a chat. This is a good medium for therapy!

An excellent therapist

By Priscilla H., Bergefield, NJ, Verified Reviewer

Ms. Gonzalez has been a strong support for me for the last few weeks. She is an open-minded therapist that does not take over control throughout the session. Rather, you can install all types of conversation without being ashamed of her response. With Gonzalez, there won’t be a monologue, but an interaction regarding your circumstances and Ms. Gonzalez’s expertise to learn how to better confront your current situation.

BetterHelp, the best way to get therapy

By Denise K., Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Verified Reviewer

I was online browsing to find therapists to talk to on a one to one basis. To me by seeing and talking to a therapist makes me feel more comfortable and relaxed. And it also makes it easier for you to talk about some of the issues you need help with. I truly made the right choice when I contacted BetterHelp. Just give it a try, and I'm sure you will return for more help.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

This is convenient and to me that is most important as it helps me understand the help I request

You get to choose the time periods so that your session is always controlled by you

Is nothing really, except the time goes so fast, as sometimes I feel like I can go on and on

Been a life changer

By A M., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I can't believe I've waited so long to get help. I like how I was able to read through counselors and find one I thought would fit me, and how I have options to do a 'face to face' video call, call, or chat. It felt like I was safer starting with chats, and I'm looking forward to doing calls or video calls. It is kind of expensive, and I don't think I will be able to do it long term, but it's so worth it! Being able to talk with my counselor daily is really helping much faster than once a week, or once a month. I feel like it's actually cheaper because I'm getting better in less time than the conventional way. I love the different options I was able to use to find a counselor, and the different tools and exercises I'm given, but I'm not forced to do them, they approach in a very warm and caring way.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Being able to choose a wide range of criteria for a counselor

The amount of times a week I can contact my counselor

How easy it is for my counselor to share exercises with me, with all the other tools the app gives me

That I won't be able to use the service long due to cost

Login screen with the code can be a little buggy at times

Get this app!

By Dee M., Hattiesburg, MS, Verified Reviewer

Honestly, I was skeptical because it was an app, but I love this app! The counselor I got connected with, Colleen, has been so helpful and understanding! The app itself is pretty cool. They also have different options for talking with your counselor depending on what you’re comfortable with. You can journal right there on the app as well as schedule appointments. It’s really worth checking out and I’m always recommending to people who tell me they want to do therapy.

Excellent service

By Ryan G., No, Verified Reviewer

The accessibility and simplicity of this service is the first thing I noticed. Past that, my doubtful expectations of the quality of the counseling itself was subverted by extremely useful and meaningful counseling. I've followed the work of Carl Jung, Jean Piaget, and Carl Rodgers so closely, my expectation of being matched with someone even close to as competent as these men was low. I was proved wrong. My problems involved things deeply concerning the edges of human perception and philosophy, and the existential dread of uncertainty. I was afraid of getting mediocre help like I have gotten from a therapist in an office. I'm so pleasantly surprised by this service and would recommend it to anyone.

Not perfect, but pretty great!

By Savion K., Wisconsin, Verified Reviewer

I've enjoyed my time with BetterHelp so far. It's a little challenging sometimes to open up and be honest, as I'd like to be talking to someone who looks like me, instead of feeling like I have a "white savior". But my counselor was upfront and honest about their background, experience, and we created standards/expectations to help me feel more comfortable.

If you're looking for something with 'daily' communication or an opportunity to reach out to your counselor daily or journal with the choice to share it, this is a great avenue to take! They have many counselors to choose from and you can change whenever you want!

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Better with help from BetterHelp

By Megan K., Virginia Beach, VA, Verified Reviewer

It took less than 24 hours for me to be set up with a therapist based on a list of questions answered about the kind of person that I would be comfortable talking to so they don't just assume who you want to talk to and that is amazing.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Having a therapist I can talk to whenever I need her

Someone I'm comfortable talking to, even the bad parts

She is knowledgeable but is so personable too, it's like talking to my friend who happens to be a therapist

I can't schedule multiple video chats for the same time for like the next month
