I was skeptical about teletherapy at first but now I'm completely hooked. I love that it’s convenient. I can send a message to my therapist at any time and wait for him to respond, he is very flexible and I trust his expertise. If you’re contemplating just go for it, you won’t regret it.

Reached for help with multiples issues

By Joel M., Port-Cartier, Quebec, Canada, Verified Reviewer

As my first experience with therapy at all, I would recommend BetterHelp to anyone who seeks help and their regional medical care isn't well-staffed or equipped for their needs. This service helped me figure out the roots of some of my issues in only a few sessions. This was made possible by the survey they ask you to answer, being truthful with yourself about what kind of help you need and/or what issues you are facing off is important for the best match with a therapist that will answer your needs. There are often discounts of the services on platforms like Facebook or YouTube, and they also have an option for people with lower incomes. The quality of the service is usually great even if I personally find it a bit pricey, but it is definitively helpful and life-changing to have a safe space like this.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Easy to access (devices compatibility, interface, user-friendly)

Self chosen type of appointment (messages, call, video meeting)

Support in language other than English

Quick and efficient match with a therapist specialized or experienced in what you actually need

1 extra session free with the first subscription

Price, a bit expensive for the lower class

Cannot pay weekly for the month subscription

Maximum of 1 hours weekly offered with the monthly subscription (extra session will cost more)

Only 2 formats of subscriptions (weekly/monthly)

Best decision I’ve made for myself

By Lisa C., Altus, OK, Verified Reviewer

Signing up for BetterHelp and getting matched with my counselor, Nick, has been one of the best things for me this year. I was dealing with grief, depression, and anxiety and I’m doing much better now. I wish I had signed up for BetterHelp earlier.

I’ve attended several of the groupinars and they have been helpful. I also enjoy using the journal feature. The best part of my experience has been my counselor. He listens to me, helps me get through rough times, encourages me, and celebrates my successes with me.

BetterHelp is for "SelfCare"

By Yulitza B., Miami, FL, Verified Reviewer

I thought therapy was something only crazy people did but I was so wrong. All my life I grew up believing in just don't be sad and other people have it worse. BetterHelp had helped me understand my depression, PTSD, and trauma from childhood until now. I am 26 and no longer believe that therapy is for "specific" people but for anyone who wants help and ask for it. BetterHelp was able to match me up to an amazing therapist and I am grateful for having a choice to stop, continue, or take a break.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

You get to have preferences on who you want as a therapist

They have pricing options, anything to help

You decide when you want to do therapy at your own pace

Wonderful experience for bettering myself!

By Ali Z., Brooksville, FL, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is a very user-friendly app. It’s very easy to maneuver around and change therapists if need be. It was super easy and super quick to change therapists. Most therapists offer a variety of communications like calling, texting, and video call. I found the perfect therapist for me on the first try.

I’ve been in therapy for a few years now, but the most efficient years have been with BetterHelp. I can reach my therapist at any point in the day and can even mark a message as urgent if I need them to respond ASAP. This comes in handy for someone who deals with PTSD and anxiety.

My therapist Karie Bliss is an actual life-saver and changer. This app has completely changed my life forever.

The only complaint I have is that it’s expensive and some therapists on here care more about their clients in their private practice than the clients at BetterHelp. However, I feel like this is due to the fact that therapists on here don’t get paid as much as they should. That goes hand in hand with it being expensive, though. Sometimes it’s hard to get a good signal so the call with drop or freeze.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Easy to change therapists quickly

User-friendly app

Variety of communication services (texting, calling, and video call)

Expensive

Lack of therapists prioritizing BetterHelp clients over regular clients

Issues with call dropping

An excellent way to access mental health care

By Michael M., Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has been such a great support system for me over the past months. Not only was I matched with a therapist quickly, but the one with whom I was matched is an excellent fit for me. I think it’s great that they also allow you to change therapists if you feel the need in order to ensure that you are comfortable with yours.

The ease of use is phenomenal, with plenty of options to choose from and the ability to send messages to your therapist at any time - so that you don’t have to remember what you wanted to say until your next session. The optional worksheets and file sharing are also a great tool, and scheduling sessions couldn’t be easier.

I can not recommend BetterHelp enough - it is an excellent and affordable means of accessing quality support for your mental health.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Has genuinely helped me

By Connor R., Fort Collins, CO, Verified Reviewer

I first started using BetterHelp after a really horrible breakup and then falling out with a close friend. I was devastated at the time, and I’ve often had trouble opening up to people in my life.

What I found so helpful with BetterHelp is that I had someone that I could just talk with about what I was feeling as many times as it took for me to feel like I’d gotten all the feelings out, even if it was about the same thing every time. Even though I did talk to people in my life, something about having a therapist to talk to made me feel like I didn’t have to hold back as much and could express my feelings a little more realistically, or unfiltered.

I’ve also come to really appreciate the exercises and worksheets that my therapist offers me, because it helps me look at my feelings or any situation a little differently, and then helps me understand it that much better. I feel like BetterHelp and the therapist they assigned me genuinely helped me in a time in my life where I needed as much help as I could get, and I’m so glad they came through for me.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The different ways to communicate with my therapist

I can respond on my own time, when I'm ready and when my schedule allows it

The worksheets and exercises offered by my therapist

Sometimes I would prefer face to face sessions, since some days I felt like it would be better for me

The user interface could use a couple of changes to make it a little more user friendly

I would like the ability to save my response in case I get distracted with something else part way through

Great for many reasons!

By Natalie S., Wytheville, VA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is good for me because I live extremely rural and there are not many therapy options available for me. With BetterHelp I'm able to get top notch therapy help on my schedule, first or second shift in my house, so I don't have to drive an hour to an hour and a half to get it, which is unsustainable. Also, if my internet doesn't connect I can get a phone session. My therapist has been amazing and addressing my needs, and I can do small messages throughout the week if I'm having a bad moment. It really is a lifesaver if you need good therapy at a flat rate.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Therapy through video or phone, I don't have to drive

Flat rate for a month no matter how much or how little I use

You can message your therapist throughout the week

It took 10 days to talk to a therapist after my card was charged for the first time

Amazing. My counselor has been nothing but supportive, and nothing but helpful. I don't feel as I am failing, or that I am being judged, beyond what is needed to help me improve, which is why I am here. In my experience, I stopped paying for financial reasons, to come back to the most influential decision I have made for myself.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Convenient

Understanding counselor

Flexibility

Genuine care

Flexible options

Delays at time (not an issue)

Mostly just text (not an issue with me)

PDF forms to read through, would rather new format

At a really bad time in my life, I found BetterHelp and I believe they saved me. I lost my youngest son to suicide and my mother passed away two days later. Unqualified

By Lea S. , Santa Fe, NM

BetterHelp shared with me a therapist who does not do telemedicine and she is not trained in the modality I requested. She is trained in CBT. In case you do not know it, CBT doesn’t particularly work.

I have PTSD from trauma and this is not a modality where I have even spoken to a tolerable therapist. I find that odd considering I spent three hours writing just a few sentences about every close friendship I have and it took me over three hours and I was far from finished. I can almost promise that I have better coping skills than any therapist you have. I am not sure why they sent me this authoritarian nightmare. I decline.

If you are a trauma victim, do yourself a favor and find a modality that actually works. Do not let them victimize you with that drivel. Find a counselor who at minimum is qualified in Internal Family Systems. You will be on to the healing process quickly and process exponentially more quickly than CBT. CBT does not work.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

No “pros” were specified in this review

Did not attempt to honor my request

Recommended a therapy that I know would be harmful to me

Tried to provide me with no tele therapy using a modality that does not work

Exceeded expectations for online therapy

By Julia W., Cologne, Germany, Verified Reviewer

Honestly, my experience with my therapist on BetterHelp has been overwhelmingly positive. I was matched with a therapist who is actually the best therapist I've ever seen to date. I was able to overcome and work through fears, anxieties, and even a phobia through the work with my BetterHelp therapist.

So if you are a person who needs help, like big mental help, don't let the fact that this is video call therapy hold you back. You can make a big life shift for the positive through BetterHelp.
