Summary
BetterHelp is an online counseling platform that will pair you with a professionally licensed counselor. Access to counseling can be scheduled at any time, anywhere, and through any smart device. The efficacy of BetterHelp is linked to provider skill and intervention protocols, but there are some drawbacks if you fall into certain categories of needs and it’s not covered by your insurance provider.

I would like a refund, as BetterHelp counseling has been a horrible and stressful experience for me. My assigned therapist was rude, never showed up on time, or else never showed up at all. If Denine did show up, it was only by text, even though I requested video or phone conversation. She was uncaring and made a promise to write me a receipt for records and then 2 weeks later told me she was on vacation and would not be writing the receipt for me. She then told me to contact customer support in order to find a new therapist! I tried several times to schedule appointments with her, and she blew me off completely. She never scheduled them and ignored my requests for weekly as well as biweekly sessions. All of our conversations are documented.
This service has cost me hundreds of dollars, and I am walking away feeling much worse than I started, and now have to sort through finding a new therapist among other things. I was lied to, ignored, and ultimately pushed away rather than welcomed. From our first scheduled meeting that Denine missed, until our last interactions via messages on the forum 2 months later, this experience has been truly awful. No one should have to go through what Denine is putting me through. It’s giving therapy and telehealth a bad reputation.
I will not recommend it to literally anyone who values their own worth. This service is expensive and was worse than useless in the end - because it was damaging and hurtful. I am actually floored. The experience felt like a text exchange between myself and an absent-minded, disgruntled teenager. It was truly horrible. I’m wasting a lot of time trying to figure things out now that are connected to my horrible counseling experience with your employee.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Accessible
Was able to find a therapist quickly
It felt easy at first
The therapist
Inconsistency
Being lied to and paying for it

My experience with BetterHelp has been an easy and comfortable one. Personally, I struggle to open up and reach out, but having a program this simple to follow for help is convenient and calming for me. The only trouble I had was the app itself not working for sessions here and there, but the therapists are very respectful and want to give you the best of their services, I even had a reschedule at no cost to make sure I had my session for the week. I highly recommend giving BetterHelp a try, it’s simple and encouraging.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Accessible contact with therapist at any time
Journal entries for conversation starters
The leisure to be home and get help
Connections to app failing

I was skeptical at first of how legitimate an online therapy program would be...worried I would get sub-par providers, etc. However, my experience thus far has been far from sub-par.
I highly recommend BetterHelp for anyone who prefers a more comfortable environment (being in their own home) and values the convenience of being able to connect from wherever and not have to travel to a physical location. I am confident I am getting the same level of care, if not "realer" care, as they are not bound by the constructs of 3rd party payors. It's also great to be able to message my therapist whenever, and review material I'm sent all within the app!
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Convenient
Value
Accessibility to therapist
The app is a little buggy
Inability to use app on a tablet

Problem with finding a therapist:
When you look for long-term professional psychological help you need to find the one therapist that administers the right approach as well as fits you as a person. It is common for people to stick with the 5th+ therapist they try. Yet, in the country where I live, I found that finding a therapist is a big struggle. And if you don´t like the current one it might take months to get to the top of the waiting list of another one.
Solution:
BetterHelp offers a wide range of therapists from different parts of the world. I really appreciated that I could try different therapists and if I felt like I did not like them I could have a scheduled session with a new therapist within two days to a week. I have tried 5 therapists via this platform and finally found the one I want to stay with for long-term cooperation.
Space for improvement:
The BetterHelp's online platform occasionally breaks and it seems like not all the therapists knew how to use it properly and were figuring it out on the go. I also had one therapist that was just listening and said almost nothing in 2 months, which I did not find helpful at all but the rest of the therapists were helpful and professional.
Summary:
Overall, I would recommend BH to anybody who does not mind remote therapy. I am satisfied with the service, especially with how accessible this platform makes professional psychological support, and I am highly satisfied with my current therapist.
Length of Use: 1–2 years
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Getting a therapist within days
Wide range of therapists
Online
Lower price for students/people with low income
Time difference (not enough therapist close to the European time zone yet)
You have to pay for therapies but these people deserve the money
You need to have good internet connection

Everything is on your terms. Video or voice chats. Anytime and/or any day that works for you. If you THINK you may need help. There’s no excuse for NOT using BetterHelp. You won’t find a more flexible and knowledgeable source of help. And these people ARE professionals. Not just reading from a script.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Flexible
Price
Privacy
The voice/video chats are through the app so you must have a good STEADY internet signal for the best experience

I've done therapy through BetterHelp as well as the traditional method where you're in the therapist's office. I love the flexibility of doing it via BetterHelp so I can sit in the comfort of my couch, in a safe space where I feel comfortable. It makes for a more conducive environment for me to open up. Plus the technology is reliable!
Length of Use: 1–2 years
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Doing therapy from my home and not a therapist's office
Flexibility of days/times offered without the need for travel time
Ability to select the therapist I want to work with
No ability to schedule more than 1 week ahead. I would love to be able to block out a set day/time with my therapist that's my slot for the next 3 months.

I am so grateful for taking therapy. In the beginning, I was skeptical about the whole thing, but finally I did and I am so happy with myself and confident in who I am and what I feel. My greatest concern was my inner peace and I am getting that back. I feel fully happy with myself, which is really important to me. I am happy I got a perfect match with Ellen Loveless, she's a great listener and helps you with anything you can need help with.

I have participated in psychotherapy on and off for the past 40 years (yeah, I'm older). I was looking for a therapist to deal with acute depression and anxiety in large part due to the COVID-19 situation, and I was striking out on finding a therapist through my insurance.
I had heard the ads on my favorite podcasts for betterhelp.com, and I figured, why not? I signed on, and started with one therapist, who I didn't feel a connection with, so, I pulled the plug, and looked for an alternative, and have found a therapist who has opened up some issues for me that I had thought were unresolvable.
I love the ease of finding a new therapist (I do feel bad for the therapist I "fired" - I've never done that before). But, the virtual platform has been better than I would have ever imagined. My therapist responds via messaging between our sessions, and I feel like I can touch base anytime.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Ease of use
24-hour availability by messaging
I actually like the journalling option (I had my doubts at first, even though I've kept journals in the past)

This is my first time with counseling and talking to a therapist and it’s been nothing but helpful. I’ve only had a few sessions and I already feel better. My wife and I have hit a rough patch in our marriage and my therapist has been helping me get through it with how to communicate better. I would highly recommend betterhelp.com to everybody that’s seeking help.

It's for everyone. Young and old, for people who don't know what they want to work on and for ones that only need help with things they are already working on. If you don't like texts you have voice messages and phone calls...but if you hate those you have texts and even video calls. It's for people that want therapies as well for the people who just want to see what it's like to try something like this. I was very skeptical when I first try this, but now I love every minute of its app. 10/10 would recommend it.

When trying this I never anticipated what I would get from this is what I actually got! They ask you a number of questions that help them pair you with a matching therapist but you always have an option to change if you feel it's not a good fit. I love how I can message my therapist and she will respond when she has the time, which usually is in a timely manner. I am able to journal and she has access to that as well so she can see what is going on. So it helps her to prepare for our sessions. But I don't have to share it with her, that's just an option. I meet with my therapist once a week and her schedule is flexible and pretty open.
They have financial aid for those with income restrictions, which I think is amazing and goes to show you that they want to help and don't just want money. You still have to pay but they do what they can to make it doable.
I'm glad I found BetterHelp. It definitely was the right move for me!
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Convenient can sit at home to do your sessions
The messaging option to your therapist
Journaling
I wish I could see my therapist more than once a week if I needed to

I received very disturbing questions and comments from my therapist. Upon expressing questions about the human condition, she responded, “What are you getting at with these questions? What is wrong with you?” In addition to this after I had already started crying from this weird line of questioning, she tried to convince me I had told her I hated the way I looked so much I didn’t want to appear on camera, none of which I had previously expressed to her.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Sort of easy to switch therapists
Online
Text therapist
Received traumatic therapy
Was straight up asked what my trauma was
Far too expensive

Using BetterHelp has been an extremely positive experience in finding a therapist who was right for me. This was the first time that I found a therapist who actually trusted and respected who I was and what I already knew about myself. It allowed me to sit at home and create a safe space for something that was quite nerve-wracking at first. I still get nervous before talking about vulnerable subjects but I never regret it. My therapist is so understanding and respectful and by the end of the session I almost always feel good about the conversation that we had.
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Finds a therapist catered towards your needs
Convenience of staying at home
Accessibility to contacting my therapist outside of session
It is expensive
Can be glitchy
Journal prompts could be better

BetterHelp did a great job of matching me to the right therapist for me. In my opinion being matched well with a therapist is exceptionally important. We're both entrepreneurial, we're both athletic, and we both enjoy meditation.
Additionally, I have a friend who is a therapist on BetterHelp, she said she chose it because its security is really good.
My therapist respects me and my experiences. She has done a really great job of helping me through my current difficulties. I'm excited about launching into the next phase of my life, and I feel like she is happy for me and with me.
Length of Use: 1–2 years
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Video appointments
Other methods of communication with my therapist, such as journaling
Easy to send and receive attachments
Sometimes the video crashes on appointments, but when that happens it's easy to switch to a secure phone call

Pros and Cons
