BetterHelp has been a truly positive experience for me from my very first encounter, which involved a questionnaire that helped them to match me with the outstanding therapist that I now have, who shares my Christian values and is so professional and insightful.
My therapist has helped me to gain a workable knowledge of how past events both helped and hurt me in my struggles and victories that encompassed my journey as a teenager with anorexia and PTSD. He is a very good listener and asks the right questions that lead me to investigate both my past and my present. I have now begun to feverishly copy down what was said during the session and explore the questions that he asked me, and practice the panic attack breathing exercises and other suggestions that he has made. As a result, I have gained a much better insight into those areas in just 3 sessions than I ever have had before with a therapist. I have even recovered lost memories that now fit pieces of the puzzle of that time in my life that confused me before. That's a sign of a good therapist. I owe my utmost gratitude to Samuel Johnson for helping me gain those insights.
The choices of having a live video chat or a text chat are nice, as I can text much more openly and descriptively than I could if my husband was listening to every word and trying to gaslight and mock me. I have also always shown much more strength in writing than in expressing myself verbally in front of someone, so texting is a win-win for me. Otherwise, a face-to-face session can also bring out my shy nature, causing me to lose my train of thought and leave out details that could be important. This is a very unique feature that I love so much.
The 24/7 access to therapists is also a very nice and unique feature for emergencies as well, although I don't plan to use it except to respond to my therapist's check-ins. I know that my therapist has a very busy schedule, so I try to respect that. Still, it is a comforting feeling to know that a real person would actually respond to me if I was in a dire crisis.
I have never had a therapist before, either, that would send me a text just to check on how I was feeling and wish me a blessed day. That is so kind and helpful, in that it encourages me to keep working on my issues.
I also love the self-help videos and live chat sessions with BetterHelp members on various topics. It is nice that you have a while to access the videos if you are not able to view them live.
Choosing BetterHelp is one of the best decisions that I have ever made, and I am beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, even though I know my journey will still take a while to heal from and that I will most likely have to face some of these challenges from here on out. I feel that God heard my prayer and led me down this path. BetterHelp has made me a stronger me, and that is a very good thing.
