Summary
BetterHelp is an online counseling platform that will pair you with a professionally licensed counselor. Access to counseling can be scheduled at any time, anywhere, and through any smart device. The efficacy of BetterHelp is linked to provider skill and intervention protocols, but there are some drawbacks if you fall into certain categories of needs and it’s not covered by your insurance provider.

Using BetterHelp for therapy is one of the best decisions I have ever made. My therapist is so kind, supportive, she listens to me, and she isn’t judgmental whatsoever. I love the flexibility of BetterHelp, I can schedule when I want and how I want, such as video, messaging, or a phone call. I love that I have the opportunity to message my therapist if something is pressing, or I could even just leave her a memo so I know what I want to discuss next time. There’s no pressure, and you can always change therapists if you want. I truly feel that BetterHelp has helped me make a difference in my life, and I wish I would have started sooner.

I've been using BetterHelp for a few months now. It was a rocky start at the beginning, but after the first month, things really smoothed out.
I found a BetterHelp therapist who I work well with. I get to participate in individual and group sessions, classes, and worksheets.
I have made a lot more progress in my healing journey through BetterHelp than once every two-week session with an in-person counselor.

I first heard of BetterHelp through Michael Rosenbalm's podcast Inside of You. He mentioned how they fit his needs, and so I gave it a try after a failed brick-and-mortar therapist. They paired me straight off with Star A. and they have been excellent and a perfect fit for my needs. I had to leave for a while and then return when finances allowed. I was extremely lucky to be able to start back sessions with my preferred therapist. Later night session fit my life of raising two small kids. The journals and messaging help with quick questions or in-depth writing to help the therapist focus on you during your actual session.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Fits schedule better then brick and mortar
Messages and journal
Allows for breaks if needed to fit financially
The pairing system found what I needed first time
Cheaper than brick-and-mortar but $200 a month can be out of reach for some
If I need meds this does allow for that but I understand this is for different needs

BetterHelp is a great way to connect with a knowledgeable and professional therapist.
Online therapy is not the same as in-person but the great part about it is that you get to receive professional help and at a smaller cost than in-person therapy. I do not have insurance to cover for a therapist and BetterHelp is a more affordable way to receive the help I need.
The ability to switch therapists if you feel as if you need a different one for any number of reasons is also helpful and less research on our part since they do the work to connect you. It’s never been easier to receive help quickly, and affordable.
I very much enjoy the group therapy as well, which is included in your price. Overall great service, very thankful to have found it in a time of need.

This has been the best experience with therapists I’ve ever had. I got matched with my first therapist and haven’t changed at all. My therapist, Yelitza, is the best. I will say that if I didn’t get a discount, I don’t think I would use BetterHelp. I got a discount as a student and financially struggling, paying around $42/month. Any higher price and I wouldn’t be able to afford it. But that being said, signing up for BetterHelp is the best thing I’ve done for myself in years.
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Flexibility with my schedule
Being able to book 3 sessions in advance
Being able to message my therapist between sessions
Pricey
Extra fees if booking multiple sessions in one week

You get more with BetterHelp than you do with regular therapy. I do love face-to-face therapy, but I appreciate the convenience of the virtual meetings with my therapist. In addition, I love that I can message my therapist and get immediate feedback many times, as well as scheduling emergency sessions. I love the "journal" feature as well and the ability to share those journal entries (if I want) with my therapist. It's helped to keep my therapist updated on my current issues so we don't have to recap 100% at our next session.

Pros and Cons

Very flexible times to be able to schedule on our own.
Good discounts for anyone in need of financial aids.
Sometimes there can not be enough time or sometimes too much time. Sometimes I don't even feel a need to go in for the week. I wish I could pay for just the sessions.

BetterHelp is an excellent service with quality therapists. I've worked with two great therapists on the app, both 1:1 sessions and then couples therapy, and it's been so helpful. At first, I was hesitant to do sessions online, preferring in-person counseling, however, I'm now a convert. It makes it significantly more time efficient if you're trying to take time out of work, meaning you can easily slot it in. I love how easy the platform is to use and the therapists are able to send worksheets and additional resources so it really extends beyond the sessions, which I've never experienced in previous therapeutic treatment. The only flag is that you pay for the service per week, even if you don't have a session, which is because your therapist is essentially available to you whenever via a chat function, so make sure you're hot on booking appointments and if you go away I believe you can freeze your membership and return to the same therapist.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Ease of use
Quality therapists
Additional resources to supplement sessions
You pay even if you don't have a session
Having to provide a rating after every session

BetterHelp has such an awesome platform. Very user-friendly. The app provides journals, messaging, support group sessions in addition to individual sessions. Multiple methods of communicating with therapists (phone, video, and text).
My therapist, Kenya, is amazing. She gets me and has helped me tremendously in regard to setting healthy boundaries and accepting when to move on from situations that cause me anguish.
Overall I love this service. My only complete is the usual complaint went it comes to mental care services. It's pricey and they do not accept insurance. Sometimes I find myself wanting to stop simply because of costs. However, I need the help.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
My therapist
The journal and option to share with my therapy
Everything is accessible via app
Too costly
Sometimes there are system glitches

This review is from a guy who quite possibly had the most ignorant view of therapy prior to this year. If you are like me and think there's not a soul on Earth who can say a darn thing to help you, this review is for you.
Shut up...and try it. You don't click with your therapist, get a new one quick: no hassle, no bad feelings. Keep in mind, you're the one who's not dealing with life well or enjoying it to your full extent...you can also be your own worse enemy in fixing your issues. This is a great catalyst to help you change your own point of reference on anything. But you can't help someone who doesn't really want to help themselves.
You're reading this, so it looks like that's not the issue. Just leave your hardened opinions at the door and take the opportunity to fix what's messing with you. Or don't...your Choice. Your life, right.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons

I absolutely love this service and would recommend it to anyone who needs therapy. The ability to talk to my therapist while laying in bed is great. The price for a month is less than one session with a typical therapist, and I don't have to take any time out of my somewhat chaotic schedule for it. My therapist, Eric Moser, is a kind and patient man and I deeply appreciate how he talks to me about not only big issues but also small ones. My emotional state and stability have increased greatly while using this service. Would legitimately hug my therapist if I saw him in person.
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Great therapy
Easily accessible
Affordable
Can occasionally take some time to respond

I put on my intake form that I did not want Christian-based counseling at all. A therapist took me on her caseload. I researched her out of BetterHelp and found that she was a Christian therapist for 20+ years. I decided to give her a chance to counsel and leave her beliefs out of it. I was with her for 2 months and after telling her about how my best friend of 10 years and I quit talking, she decided it was the perfect time to say, “I don’t feel like I can be your therapist effectively because you practice witchcraft and I’ve only ever seen witchcraft lead to a path of destruction.” I asked if it was because she was Christian and she said yes.
She should have never taken me on her case of seeing that I did not want any Christian counseling due to religious trauma. She just added to that trauma. She put my info out into her chat of therapists and asked if anyone would work with me because I practiced witchcraft. Two said they would and the therapist gave me their names and info to research and pick one. I picked the one I currently have and she is fantastic. But she told me I had to request a new therapist as she didn’t have the option to terminate me on her caseload. So I did, and that set me into a weeklong waiting period of waiting for BetterHelp support to see my email.
After talking to my current therapist, I was informed they absolutely have to option to terminate a client on their end. That previous therapist basically just wanted to make it look like I requested a new therapist. And that was proven true with all the language I got from BetterHelp, i.e I’m sorry you didn’t connect and wanted a new therapist and language of the like.
I feel like this was the therapist's fault and then also BetterHelp’s fault in not stressing that part about religious trauma on my intake form. And also, I was irritated with how long it took support to see my email and get me transferred. I ended up being given another therapist and telling her and she had it fixed within 12 hours.
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Convenient
The chat service
That they have an app I can download
Length of customer support response

Still charging me for the week I was without a therapist/no access to anything on their platform

It has been very easy to join, use the service for a number of months, and then cancel my subscription without any lengthy or unnecessary phone calls.
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Fast email replies
Adapting subscription to fit my financial situation
Excellent therapist
Easy cancellation
Occasionally the platform didn't function properly and I was unable to contact my therapist

I'm extremely happy with my experience on BetterHelp. Most of my life I haven't been able to afford paying for therapy and BetterHelp made it accessible for me to pursue it. It was important to me to have a therapist that could also incorporate my Christian faith into our sessions and I was so happily surprised at how they help you find the right therapist for your desired wants, along with whatever your needs are. Being someone that lives abroad, I also appreciate that I could do this service virtually so I could speak to someone in my mother tongue!
Length of Use: 6–12 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Affordability
Option for faith-based therapist
Virtual possibilities
They offer financial aid for those that still find the pricing hard to manage
I can use it from another country
Wish there was more subscription options (ex. to pay only for one session at a time instead of once a week)
