AirJoi
Summary
The AirJoi is a natural, chemical-free solution for removing odors and moisture from the air. The product is limited in its ability to remove airborne allergens, though.
AirJoi Review: What to Know Before You Buy
The AirJoi is an air deodorizer bag that uses bamboo charcoal to try and remove airborne pollutants and prevent the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria.
What makes this product interesting is that it helps you meet your goal of keeping your rooms smelling fresh without using chemicals or fragrances. This means you don’t have to worry about strong scents or safety issues if your kids or pets get a hold of the purifier.
In our review of this product, you’ll acquire the in-depth information you need to understand if this product can help you dehumidify rooms in your home and keep the air fresh.
How the AirJoi Works
Knowing how the AirJoi purifies the air in your home is essential to your determination about how helpful this product can be in your particular home environment.
Each bag of AirJoi contains “activated charcoal,” which is a method of making the material more porous. Bamboo charcoal is especially porous, which means all those microscopic holes can soak up odors and contaminants in the air.
“Activate (charcoal) works by a process called ‘absorption,’ which collects pollutants on the surface of the material as it passes by,” said Patrick Holmes an air quality specialist at Home Air Quality Guides. “Think of it like a magnet that pollutants stick to.”
Place the AirJoi bag in the room you want to purify, wait a couple of days and you should start to see a difference in the room’s smell.
Once a month, you’ll need to place your charcoal bag in direct sunlight for two hours. The sunlight’s UV rays neutralize any contaminants your AirJoi captures.
Each bag lasts up to two years.
How to Use the AirJoi Effectively
The best place to use AirJoi charcoal bags is in a small space where the air doesn’t have a chance to escape, Holmes said.
“The bags will take several days to weeks to remove odors because of this lack of airflow. It takes time for the air in those spaces to move around enough to flow through the charcoal bag,” Holmes said.
Based on this information, your charcoal bags would be most effective in the following areas:
- Closets
- Bathrooms
- Small rooms
Closets are an ideal space, especially if you’re storing things that create odors like shoes or household cleaners.
Additionally, because these bags don’t use chemicals or fragrances, you don’t have to worry about potentially unbearable combinations of fumes, bad smells, and fragrances. Rather than just covering up the odor with more aromas, you’re removing the odor from the air.

How Does the AirJoi Compare to Other Air Purifiers?
As you search for a solution to purify the air in a room or rooms in your residence, it’s important to consider multiple options.
Two competitors to the AirJoi are filtered air purifiers and air ionizers.
AirJoi vs. Filtered Air Purifiers
Filtered air purifies suck air through a filter that traps allergens and odors. These machines range in price from as little as $30 to beyond $300 depending on how big a room you need to purify.
Their advantage is that they draw air in and can remove more than 99% of the particles in the air, whereas a charcoal bag won’t have near the same effectiveness.
The downside is that these machines require filter replacements every three to four months. This results in recurring costs of at least $15 to $20 per filter three to four times a year.
If your goal is to remove allergens in a room, a filtered air purifier will be your most effective choice. However, if you want to remove odors and moisture in a room, the AirJoi will suit you better.
AirJoi vs. Air Ionizers
Air ionizers release ions into the air that bind with allergens and drag them down to the ground.
The advantage of these machines is that they don’t require filter replacements. However, they make the room they’re in very dusty. As such, you’ll have to clean the room every day to remove the fallen allergens. Also, air ionizers don’t work well in high-traffic areas like a pet’s room.
The AirJoi is the better choice for you if you want odor removal or moisture reduction. While the product is limited in its ability to remove allergens, it doesn’t require the daily vacuuming and dusting an ionizer would.
The Bottom Line: Is the AirJoi the Right Solution for You?
Charcoal-based air purifiers are a legitimate way for you to remove odors and moisture. For this reason, AirJoi charcoal bags could be an effective, chemical-free solution for freshening up your closets, bathrooms or smaller rooms.
Based on our research, we believe this product is a good fit for certain situations but a poor option in other situations.
Who It’s Good For:
-
You Store Your Shoes in Your Bedroom Closet: Shoes are one of the main culprits of bad smells in confined spaces. Any bedroom closets that have doors and house shoes are good places to put AirJoi bags.
-
You Are Allergic to Fragrances: If you have allergies, you can be particularly sensitive to any air fresheners that mask smells instead of neutralizing them. AirJoi’s use of odorless charcoal is a huge benefit for you.
-
You Drive Kids in Your Car: AirJoi charcoal bags can be a lifesaver if you have kids who make messes in your car. Placing one or two bags under the seats will help neutralize odors that may result from old food under seats or dirty diapers you changed in the car and forgot to throw away.
Who It’s Not Good For:
-
Removing Allergens Is Your Primary Concern: If you have a room with allergens like dust, pollen or pet dander, the AirJoi isn’t the best solution. It cannot pull allergens toward it like a filtered air purifier, which means it’s not as effective in allergen removal as you’ll need it to be.
-
You Need to Remove an Odor ASAP: The AirJoi takes a couple of days to work, which means it isn’t right for your situation if the area you want to purify has a foul odor. For example, if your dog has an accident on the carpet in your closet, it will take at least a couple of days for the AirJoi to remove the odors. These kinds of odors can be unbearable. Therefore, cleaning the carpet where the accident occurred would be a more expedient solution.

Worst service ever! EVER.
Money back, please. I spent fifteen dollars to mail the useless product back to them and now I have sent twelve emails, proof of tracking, etc. just to have "Maeya" from customer service continue to repeat the exact same thing to me every time. It's infuriating!

Overpriced products
My experience with AirJoi was a joke, honestly. I gave it a shot, 5 days later $150 in the hole. I don't have any difference in odor, no difference in air quality. A total gimmick that is just another joke!

AirJoi works!
AirJoi works well. I am so pleased with this product. We have a pet Chinchilla. The Chinchilla occupies one whole room in our house. It makes a very pungent, not-very-pleasant-smelling urine which makes the entire room sometimes unbearable to breathe in air. But, thanks to AirJoi, my odor problem is solved. I used 2 bags since it is a regular size room. This is really an amazing product. I just hope that the odor-removing ability will last for as long as advertised.

Excellent buy
My husband has very bad allergies. I purchased 10 of the AirJoi and put one in every room in my house. The next day his allergies were not bothering him any longer. We have tried everything and I am so grateful for the AirJoi product because this seems to be the only thing that has helped him not sneeze, cough, or blow his nose all day long. Thank you AirJoi for making a product that truly works and helps someone that has a hard time with allergies.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Not effective
It has been three days and no changes noted in odor where I placed the AirJoi.
I would recommend purchasing in Kroger's where the price is $4.99 per bag, which is half the price and give it a trial, before spending so much money for a product that is not effective.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
